Sripada Yellampally Project (SYP) is an important Milestone in the development of backward areas of Telangana State as well as in the proposed full harnessing and utilization of available waters of Godavari River.
Sripada Yellampalli Project is an irrigation project located at Yellampalli Village, Ramagundam Rural Mandal, between Peddapalli district in Telangana State.This irrigation project foundation was firstly laid by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on 28 July 2004.It is named after late legislator, D. Sripada Rao. After newly formed Telangana state the Irrigation Minister Harish Rao was inaugurate this project on November 8.
The project is designed to utilize about 63 tmc of water at a cost of Rs. 900 crores in the first phase. In the second phase, about 49.5 tmc would be lifted to the upland regions of Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal and Medak districts. 6 tmc water allotted for NTPC Ramagundam project.After the flood gates are installed, the project could would store about 20 Tmcft of water.

In first phase of this scheme is designed to draw and supply 10 tmcft (172 MGD) of water. Godavari is pumped from Murmur (Yellampally reservoir) to the last point of Ghanapur reservoir (near Shamirpet). The raw water is pumped by lifting at two stages at Murmur, Bommakal and the treated water is pumped at two stages at Mallaram and Kondapak - altogether 495 metres high.
Scope of the Project
It is proposed for construction of barrage across river Godavari @ Yellampally (V),Ramagundam (M) Karimnagar Dist. to store 20.175 TMC of water for irrigating an ayacut of 178700 Acres in Karimnagar Dist. Out of this, 165700 lakh acres is proposed to irrigate through distributory canal network system under Stage II /phase I with 12 TMC of water and 20000 Acres is proposed to irrigate under Manthani LI scheme by lifting 2 TMC of waterfrom Cistern near NTPC. Further stabilization of 30,000 Acres of Kaddem Narayan Reddy Project in Adilabad Dist. is proposed by lifting 3 TMC of water from fore shore of SYP at Gudem (V), Luxettipet (M) Adilabad Dist. Apart from the above 220000 Acres, Lifting of 6.50TMC of water from fore shore of SYP at Yellampally (V),Ramagundam(M) Karimnagar Dist.to supply to NTPC Ramagundam is also contemplated.
The main components of the project are :
a) Construction of Barrage with FRL +148.00 M to store 20.175 TMC of Water.
b) Lifting 6.50 TMC of Water to NTPC for Industrial use and 2.00 TMC of water for drinking & irrigation to Manthani area.
c) Lifting 49.50 TMC of Water from the Project to create an Irrigation potential of about 4.50 Lakh acres in upland areas of Karimnagar & Medak Districts of Telangana region.
Cost of The Project :
The State government has sanctioned Rs 7574.21 lakh to Irrigation & CAD Department for executing the works of lifting of water from foreshore of Sripada Yellampally Project to stabilize the SRSP tail-end Ayacut of 17L and 27L of D83 and to feed minor irrigation tanks under these Ayacuts to irrigate 20,000 acres under Ramagundam Mandal.(NSS)
