J. Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme
The overall project (including all phases) Devadula project is the second biggest lift irrigation project in Asia.Devadula lift irrigation project is located at Warangal District,Telangana where the scheme's intake well is Constructed. The project is specially designed to lift water from the River Godavari to irrigate lakhs of acres in the drought prone areas of the state.The project will be completed in 36 calendar months. This project will irrigate an ayacut of 3.43 lakh acres in Warangal district of Telangana region. MEIL is assigned to deliver 3 packages in Phase-3 of the project.
The minimum river water level required is 73 m MSL in the river to pump the water whereas the non-monsoon / lean season river water level is below 71 m MSL. No downstream weir is yet constructed to build up the river minimum water level at this location of the river.
The maximum water lift is by 510 meters. The project operational requirement is 484 MW power and 1.4 billion KWh of electrical energy annually for pumping 38 Tmcft water.This lift canal is an inter river basin transfer link by feeding Godavari River water to Krishna River basin in Warangal and Nalgonda districts.
The completed works in this specific package of the project include the construction of super structure of pump house, erection of pumps & motors, construction of control room, fabrication & erection of manifold, outfall structure, laying of 3 rows of pipeline of 3000 mm diameter that run across a length 116.25 km, the entire surge protection system including 18 nos. of vessels and 6 nos. of one-way surge tanks (OWST). All the 18 surge vessels (of length-18.38 Mt. and capacity-124 Cub. Mt.) were manufactured in MEIL’s Pressure Vessel Division.The major part of the scheme was successfully commissioned in November 2014 and the first phase was commissioned in 2008, while the second phase has been substantially completed. Phase III - Package 1 of this Scheme involves an EPC Contract for carrying 49.6 cumecs of water in three rows of 3 m diameter pipelines for a distance of 38.75 km each, from the existing intake on River Godavari at Gangaram Village to Bheemghanpur tank in Warrangal district of Andhra Pradesh. The project is being executed in a JV between HCC, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd and CKD Blansko Engineering.
