HKR Road is also known as Rajiv Rahadari or State Highway-1. It is the lifeline of Karimnagar district.It starts from Parade Grounds,Secunderabad, at km 9.600 and traverses through the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medak, Karimnagar and Adilabad before connecting NH-16 at Mancheriyal, at km 235.058. Incidentally, all these districts fall in the newly created state of Telangana.
“This road plays an important role in connecting some of the key regions of Hyderabad, Medak and Karimnagar. The corridor is expected to play a vital role in the economic development of the Telengana region as the belt is marked by presence of several industrial units.” The Hyderabad-based infrastructure and construction company (MEIL) is engaged in development of roads, power and other infrastructure projects.
This the four-laning road of Hyderabad–Karimnagar–Ramagundam from Km 28.200 to Km 235.058 was taken up on BOT-toll Basis. The total length of the HKR road project is 206 Km., and the scope of the project involves the construction of major bridges, fly-overs, viaducts, minor bridges and pedestrian underpass and providing road furniture like pavement markings with retro-reflective paint, road studs, delineators, solar blinkers, Chevron boards etc.

The commercial operations started in June 2014 with a total of 3 toll plazas under operation. We have received lot of appreciation from the road users who applauded on the comforts and time savings in the journey. It is a prestigious project of the government, which was completed successfully and the commercial operations are running smoothly.Based on its current success in the sector, MEIL has been approved by the National Highway Authority of India to participate independently in BOT projects of worth Rs. 1,606.95 Crores. The project was taken up at a cost of about Rs 1,400 crore under design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis and the contract.The road development began in 2011 and was completed in all aspects a few months ago. The concessionaire, HKR Roadways Ltd, started collecting toll from vehicles from June 1, 2014, for the completed stretches. The contractor can collect toll for the next 25 years.
Objectives
To facilitate comfortable and quick vehicular movement in lesser time with less fuel consumption thereby reducing foreign exchange on petrol etc., and to connect capital Hyderabad with siddipet, Karimnagar and NTPC/Ramagundam.
