  • To address the drinking water problem of Uddanam people, the AP government has allocated Rs. 530.81 crore for a massive potable drinking water project. 
  • Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) executing this monumental project work expeditiously.
  • Kidney disease signs appeared in the Uddanam area in the 90s.
  •  In 2000, doctors from the Indian Medical Association of Sompeta officially diagnosed kidney disease cases in the Kaviti area. 
  • Since then, many domestic and foreign teams have done continuous research. 
  • Over the past 20 years of research and observations have largely concluded that the drinking water causing the pandemic. 
  • Currently, 112 villages are suffering from kidney diseases.
  • The AP government recognised that the water as a major cause of kidney diseases in the Uddanam area has decided to provide potable safe drinking water to households in seven mandals in Ichchapuram and Palasa constituencies.

  • MEIL bagged the Uddanam drinking water projects works through the tender.
  •  Started works with the aim of completing in two years. 
  • 1.12 TMC of water transported through the pipes from Hiramandalam Reservoir. 
  • The project is aimed to supply potable drinking water for 22 hours at a rate of 100 litres per person to the 7,82,707 people, as per the 2051 census requirements. 
  • The construction works of a sump with a capacity of 10 lakh litres at Pedda Neelavathi gaining the momentum. 
  • The project will supply water to 807 villages in Ichchapuram, Kanchili, Kavithi, Sompeta, Palasa, Vajrapukottur and Mandasa mandals.
  • The Srikakulam District Collector expressed satisfaction that the Uddanam drinking water project works executing on brisk pace by MEIL. 
  • This project provides potable drinking water and the potential to control kidney disease in the Uddanam area.
